Apple | AirPods 3rd gen, six months in

Back in January I was at Manchester Airport about to leave for a two week cruise in the Caribbean, disaster struck — I’d forgotten to pack my beloved AirPods (2nd gen) from 2019!

Realising my grave error, I dashed to INMOTION (the airport electronics concession) and found myself a pair of 3rd Generation AirPods at the bargain price of £119…twenty quid cheaper than I could see them for online at the time.

Here’s my view six months in:

Pros:

  • transferability — one of the best things about AirPods in general is the ease of transfer between my Mac, iPad & iPhone. Being able to open Music on my Mac and switch seamlessly to a call on my phone is wicked (much improved with Apple’s latest iOS & MacOS updates!)
  • case — fits very nicely in any pocket and is just big enough to ‘know it’s there’ (i.e. trying not to forget them again!)
  • battery life — these things go on, and on, and on, and on, and on — hours and hours of music, video and calls. When fully charged, the case will add about a day’s worth of charge too!
  • ear fit — even on hilly bike rides and during vigorous HIIT workouts I’ve not lost a pod yet, they just sit so well in my ears. I tend to wear them for work calls throughout the day and haven’t once felt uncomfortable.
  • Spatial Audio — just WOW! I love listening to classical music when working and relaxing, these things make it sound like I’m watching an orchestra in…
