Apple | how I’m getting on with Apple’s Reminders App (iOS and MacOS)

Six months ago I wrote about my transition from a pen and paper to-do list to using Apple’s native Reminders App.

That post ended with a Siri-set reminder to update progress in a new article:

So. Here we go!

What has worked so far?

  1. Using Siri - I haven’t analysed this with any degree of accuracy, but I’d estimate that 90% of reminders I set in the Reminders App are done using Siri (via my AirPods)
  2. Time-sensitivity - probably my most used feature is to remind myself to do things for work, i.e. ‘Update Deck XYZ and send to ABC on Friday morning’ turns into a handy reminder when I have some down time
  3. Tagging - as you can see above, I use the tag #medium for #medium related reminders. This (almost) eradicates the need for Lists, see below

What needs to improve?

  1. Frequency - I sometimes don’t set a reminder and, subsequently, get angry with myself if I forgot to complete a task on time. Can I plug Reminders into my brain perhaps?
  2. Synchronisation — though my Mac and iPhone do eventually sync, there are points where I’ve cleared/added a reminder on one and the change takes a while to show up on the other (this is a little narky if notifications then start as a result of the non-sync!)

What can I forget about?

  1. Lists - since the introduction of Tagging, I’ve reduced my Lists down to Home and Work from a once-maximum of 7
  2. Pen & Paper - I have no intention of returning to my old-school to-do list using pen and paper!

So, six months in and I’m still a Reminders Super-Fan!
